Cedar Falls, Iowa-The No. 10 Nebraska wrestling team claimed second place at the National Duals after falling to No. 2 Iowa, 24-6, in the finals on Sunday in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The Huskers moved to 9-2 on the year after winning three straight duals over ranked opponents to reach the finals, including No. 1 Penn State in the second round.
The Hawkeyes jumped out to a 15-0 lead by winning the first five matches, but the dual was far from a blowout. Those five wins were all decisions as Nebraska refused to be intimidated by the 7,700 fans in the UNI Dome. Neither team was able to notch a bonus-point victory.
Sophomore Stephen Dwyer earned the Huskers' first victory at 165 pounds as he earned an 8-6 decision over Aaron Janssen. Fellow sophomore Craig Brester also picked up a win at 197 with a 4-0 shutout of Chad Beatty.
The Huskers' run was just the second time in the 19-year history of the National Duals that an unseeded team made the finals. NU’s finish was the second time the Huskers have captured the runner-up spot and 10th time Nebraska has finished in the top five.
Nebraska returns to the mat next Sunday against OklahomaState at the FordCenter in Oklahoma City, Okla. at 6 p.m.
