Lincoln?Five former members of the Husker track and field program, including two former NCAA champions, will be among 45 Nebraska student-athletes who will receive diplomas from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln Saturday during commencement exercises at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
The group is led on the women’s side by former NCAA discus champion Dace Ruskule, who will earn her degree in psychology. Ruskule completed her eligibility with the Huskers last spring as a two-time All-American, two-time Big 12 champion and three-time NCAA Midwest Region champion in addition to her 2006 NCAA discus title.
Another NCAA title-holder, Arturs Abolins, will also earn his degree in economics on Saturday. Abolins is a two-time national long jump champion, taking home the title in both the indoor and outdoor seasons in 2006. He also owns the Nebraska school record in the indoor long jump (26-7 ?) and is a 10-time NCAA All-American, including top-three finishes on nine occasions.
Joining Ruskule and Abolins are a trio of former Huskers, including distance runners Bryce Dickmeyer and Alec Maduza, and thrower Bubba Kramer. Dickmeyer completed his eligibility in 2006 as a co-captin of the NU cross country team and was a two-time first-team academic All-Big 12 selection.
Maduza, also a member of the Husker cross country team, was a five-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll, while Kramer finished his career as a two-time All-Big 12 and a first-team academic All-Big 12 member.
