DeBuhr and Porter Earn Degrees

Former Husker softball players Ashley DeBuhr and Devin Porter are set to receive their diplomas at Winter Commencement Ceremonies on Saturday, Dec. 22 at the BobDevaneySportsCenter.

Both players lettered at Nebraska from 2004 to 2007 and both will earn their degrees in communication studies.

DeBuhr, a native of Beatrice, Neb., ended her career as one of the top pitchers in the Big 12 Conference. A three-time all-conference selection, DeBuhr also earned three all-region accolades. Ranking among the top 10 pitchers in school history in nearly every statistical category, DeBuhr also left her mark as one of the top strikeout pitchers Nebraska has ever seen.

DeBuhr owns two of the top three single-season strikeout totals in school history. She finished her career with 936 strikeouts, becoming just the second pitcher in Nebraska history to record 900 career strikeouts. DeBuhr also compiled a 70-44 career record with a 1.78 ERA.

Porter started nearly every game at shortstop from the day she set foot on campus. A Lakewood, Calif., native, Porter started 226 career games, a total that ranks in the top 10 in school history. A second-team All-Big 12 selection in 2006, Porter developed into one of the top all-around shortstops in the league.

Over her final two seasons, Porter hit .272 with 50 runs scored, 16 doubles, four triples, 11 home runs and 48 RBIs. She finished her career with the most hit-by-pitches in a single-season (8) and in a career (22) in the history of Nebraska softball.

Together, DeBuhr and Porter set a school record for home victories in a four-year span while winning one Big 12 regular-season championship and one tournament crown. The duo also appeared in four consecutive NCAA Tournaments, including three NCAA Regionals hosted at Bowlin Stadium.
