Parsons, Scaffidi Lead Huskers in Intrasquad

<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Lincoln ? The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team held its annual intrasquad meet at Mabel Lee Hall Friday night, posting a team score of 194.10. <?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

 

Senior Emily Parsons led the way for the Huskers, finishing as the top all-around competitor with a score of 39.10. Sophomore Maria Scaffidi placed second (38.90), while senior Desire’ Sniatynski put up a 38.275 for third. Parsons also tied for first on floor with junior Tricia Woo,while claiming first-place finishes on vault (9.95) and beam (9.825). Scaffidi posted a 9.775 on bars to claim top honors.

 

NU opened the competition on vault, where Parsons set the pace with an impressive 9.95. Sniatynski followed with a 9.775, while senior Brittney Williams and Woo tied for third with a 9.75. Scaffidi added a 9.70, helping the Huskers to an event score of 48.925.

 

Nebraska then moved on to bars, where Scaffidi’s 9.775 put her in first place. Williams and Sniatynski matched marks of 9.75, and sophomore Kathryn Howard earned a 9.70 for fourth. Parsons and freshman Brittnee Habbib tied with scores of 9.50, giving NU a rotation score of 48.475.

 

The Huskers continued on to the third rotation on beam, where Parsons set the tone with a 9.825. Woo was close behind with a 9.75, and Howard and Scaffidi put up a 9.65 mark each. Sniatynski added a 9.225, and Nebraska wrapped up beam with a 48.10 event score.

 

NU capped the evening on floor with five competitors, led by a pair of 9.825 scores from Parsons and Woo. Scaffidi claimed a 9.775, followed by Williams (9.65) and Sniatynski (9.525). The Huskers finished with an event score of 48.60 and a final team total of 194.10 to conclude the meet.

 

Nebraska opens its season at IowaState on Friday, Jan. 11. Competition is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in Ames, Iowa. The Huskers then return home immediately for their first meet of the year at the BobDevaneySportsCenter on Sunday, Jan. 13, playing host to ArizonaState at 2 p.m.
