Oak Forest, Ill.-Five Huskers placed in the top-10 as Nebraska claimed its second tournament title of the season at the Maverick Challenge this afternoon.
The Huskers rolled a total pinfall of 14,968 in the three-day tournament, nearly 660 pins ahead of second-place Central Missouri State.
Jasmine Laugerman, a freshman from Brooklyn Center, Minn., had an impressive finish in her first collegiate tournament, placing second with a 205 average. Sophomore Cassandra Leuthold claimed the prestigious Most Valuable Player award with a third-place finish and a 205 average. Freshman Christine Bator placed fourth with a 197 average, while senior Lindsay Baker earned a sixth-place finish with a 196 average. Freshman Katie Ann Sopp earned her first top-10 finish, placing seventh with a 193 average.
"The main thing this week is that 'freshmenitis' is becoming less of a concern," Nebraska Coach Bill Straub said. "We are doing a nice job and I hope it stays that way."
NU will have a two-week break before traveling to Jackson, Miss., for the Capital City Collegiate Classic held at the Cotton Bowl Lanes. The Dec. 1-2 tournament will be the last for the Huskers before the spring season opener on Jan. 18 at Springfield, Mo.
