Reimers, Swarting Advance on Day Two

Tulsa, Okla. - Senior Imke Reimers and sophomore Wiveca Swarting advanced through to the second round of Open Singles at the ITA Central Regional Tournament in Tulsa, Okla., on Thursday. Freshman Amber Chandronnait, who advanced to Open Singles after winning two matches of Qualifying Singles, lost her first-round match.

Reimers, who has the No. 3 seed in the tournament, defeated Oklahoma's Maria Kalashnikova, 7-6, 6-2. She will go on to face Wyoming's Corina Lazar in Round Two on Friday morning.

Swarting upset the No. 6 seed in the tournament, Annette Aksdal of Denver, in a three set thriller, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5. She has a chance to advance to the quarterfinals if she can defeat her second-round opponent on Friday morning, Oklahoma State's Yawna Allen.

Chandronnait, coming off two wins in Qualifying Singles, fell short in her first-round match to Colorado's Gleisy Torres Torres, 6-1, 6-2.

Meanwhile, in Open Doubles, one Husker team advanced to the quarterfinals. In the opening round of 64, the duo of junior Maria Ring and Swarting defeated Wichita State's Stephanie Dalmacio and Anna Egorova, 8-6. Freshmen Amber Chandronnait and Stephanie Evans lost their first-round doubles match to Irina Tkachenko and Maryna Tkachenko of Oklahoma State, again by a score of 8-6.

In the second round, Ring and Swarting played No. 3-seed Ela Kaluder and Aurelija Miseviciute of Arkansas. They fell short in their upset bid, losing 8-1.

The pair of freshman Jana Albers and Reimers, who received a No. 13-seed and a first-round bye, defeated their second-round opponent, Kansas State's Natasha Vieira and Katka Kudlackova, 8-4. They will face a challenge on Friday morning as they take on No. 1-seed Maryori Franco and Nanar Airapetian of Arkansas.
