Brown, Stewart Shoot for Top 10 Finishes

Manhattan, Kan. - Seniors Elli Brown and Allison Stewart will both take aim at top 10 individual finishes during the final round of the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational at Colbert Hills Golf Course on Tuesday.

Brown and Stewart enter Tuesday's final 18 holes in a tie for 11th place at 150 after leading the Huskers in the tournament's first 36 holes on Monday. The senior duo sits seven shots back of Missouri's Julia Potter, who leads the tournament with a one-under-par 143. Arkansas-Little Rock's Sara Wickstrom is just one stroke off the pace after her even-par 144 on Monday.

Brown, a senior from Meridian, Idaho., attacked the 6,157-yard, par-72 layout of Colbert Hills by matching her career-best with a two-under-par 70 in the opening round. Brown, who was tied for first in the 13-team tournament after one round, helped the Huskers close the first 18 holes in a tie for fourth at 303.

Stewart also played solid golf through the first round by adding a one-over-par 73. Stewart added a 77 in the second round, but Brown struggled to recapture her first-round magic and finished with an 80 over the second 18 holes.

Kate White added a 79 in the opening round, while fellow sophomores Charlotte Wendner and JC Stevenson each settled for matching scores of 81.

Stevenson, a native of Grand Island, Neb., bounced back to lead the Huskers with a 75 in the second round to close the day in a tie for 28th at 156. White added a second-round 78 to close the first 36 holes at 157 in an 11-way tie for 31st.

Wendner finished the day in a tie for 48th at 161, while redshirt freshman Sydney Sturdevant produced identical rounds of 80 while playing as an individual to enter Tuesday's final round in a tie for 46th at 160.

Kansas leads the race for the team title with a two-round total of 600. The Jayhawks own a two-stroke edge over Big 12 foe Missouri (602), while the hosts from Kansas State and Texas State sit in a tie for third at 605. Arkansas-Little Rock is just six strokes off the pace in fifth at 606, while the Huskers are still within striking distance at 613.

Nebraska wraps up its third tournament of the fall season with the final round on Tuesday, beginning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
