Lincoln ? Nebraska announced Monday the addition of Buffalo, Kan., native Austin Braman to its 2007-08 incoming class of athletes. Braman became the 21st athlete, and first men’s javelin thrower, to sign a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Husker track and field program next season.
Braman is the No. 2 ranked prep javelin thrower in the nation in 2007 after winning the Kansas state class 4A javelin title for ChanuteHigh School in both his sophomore and senior seasons. Braman also set a 4A state meet high school record in the javelin in May with a throw of 208-7. He owns a career best throw of 217-9, which would have ranked 30th in the NCAA this season.
Braman is the first javelin thrower set to train under assistant coach Mark Colligan next season. The Kansas native will benefit from a wealth of experience under Colligan, as the throws coach has spent 22 years with the NU track and field program and helped 12 throwers to national titles.
