Huskers Fall to Cowgirls

Lincoln - The Nebraska women's tennis team fell at home to the Oklahoma State Cowgirls, 5-2, on Sunday at the Nebraska Tennis Center. The loss stops a four-match winning streak for the Huskers and gives them a 10-6 record on the year, including a 3-5 Big 12 record.   The Huskers fell behind early after losing two of the three doubles matches that gave the Cowgirls a 1-0 lead. The Huskers managed a victory at the No. 1 doubles position, where junior Imke Reimers and freshman Diana Kuhl earned their fifth straight doubles victory, but were unable to win the other two.   The Huskers quickly fought back in singles play, taking a 2-1 lead after winning at the Nos. 1 and 2 positions, marking the sixth straight match where the Huskers have had victories at both the Nos. 1 and 2 singles positions.   Reimers, ranked No. 52 nationally in singles play, won her eighth straight singles match with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over OSU's Iryna Tkachenko. Reimers improved her singles record to 14-3 this season, and has won 32 of her last 38 singles matches overall, counting the spring 2006 and fall 2006 seasons.   Kuhl won her sixth straight singles match and eighth of nine overall after Yawna Allen was forced to retire during the first set, where Kuhl was up 4-1. Kuhl improved to 11-6 overall in singles play this season, and 6-3 in Big 12 matches.   Those were all the points the Huskers would get on the day, however, as the Cowgirls took all four matches at the Nos. 1-4 positons. Oklahoma State improved to 14-5 on the season with the win, including their fourth straight victory. The Cowgirls are now 6-2 in Big 12 play this season.   The Huskers have one home match remaining this season, against Indiana State on Friday, April 13. The match is scheduled to be played outdoors at the NU Varsity Courts, although cool weather has hit the area recently, which may force the Huskers to play indoors at the Nebraska Tennis Center, where they have played all 11 of their home matches so far this season.   No. 64 Oklahoma State 5, Nebraska 2 Doubles No. 1 Reimers/Kuhl (NU) def.
