Wichita, Kan. ? The Nebraska men’s golf team put together an impressive final day at the Wichita State Invitational, moving up four spots from their ninth-place position through the first day of competition to finish in a tie for fifth at the at the Diet Pepsi Shocker Golf Classic at the par 71, 6,814 yard Wichita Country Club in Wichita, Kan.
The Huskers finished with a total score of 905 (290-312-303) after dealing with two days of 30 mph winds from the south with 38 mph gusts, tying with NortheasternStateUniversity and KansasStateUniversity.
Senior Brady Schnell led the squad with a total score of 221 (69-77-75), finishing in a tie for fourth individually. Schnell led the tournament in par-three scoring, finishing even with a total of 34 pars.
Freshman Jamie Marshall was next for the Huskers with a total of 226 (70-76-80), finishing in a tie for 26th individually. Marshall finished just one stroke over in par-three scoring, tying for second in the tournament in the category individually while also snagging a total of 33 pars in the tournament, placing him in a tie for fifth place.
Senior Ryan Lenahan finished third for the Huskers with a total score of 227 (77-79-71) and a tie for 30th individually. Lenahan also tallied 34 pars total in the tournament, ranking fourth individually in that category.
Seniors Drew Reynolds (79-80-77) and Ty Capps rounded out the Husker squad with scores of 236 as the duo finished in a tie for 56th individually. Capps finished in a tie for third in par-five scoring, finishing four under par.
Sophomore Chris Bruening additionally competed individually at the tournament, finishing with a total score of 224 (70-78-76) and a tie for 13th individually. Bruening finished just one stroke over in par-three scoring, tying for second in the tournament in the category individually.
As a team, the Huskers ranked second overall in both par-three and par-five scoring, while also placing fifth overall in birdies with 31 and third overall in par-scoring with 148 pars.
The Huskers wrap up the spring season with The Palisades Invitational, the final regular-season tournament, in Charlotte, N.C. on April 9-10, beginning with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. April 9.
