Huskers Lose Doubles Point, Overall Match to Texas Tech

Kansas City, Mo. - The Nebraska women's tennis team finished up its doubles matches against the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Wednesday, in Kansas City, Mo. The singles matches were played on March 25, in Lubbock, but the teams were unable to complete the doubles matches due to inclement weather. The final match tally was 4-3. The Huskers dropped to 12-8 overall, and finished the season with a 4-7 Big 12 record.

The teams split the six singles matches when they first met (link), leaving the match at a 3-3 tie. They were unable to find a make-up date that would work for both teams, forcing them to play the doubles matches in Kansas City, the site of the Big 12 Championships, which begin tomorrow.

The Red Raiders picked up wins at the Nos. 2 and 3 doubles positions, so the No. 1 doubles match wasn't finished. TTU's Maria Jose Andres and Kerryn Potgieter defeated Marianne Cicmanec and Ashley Finnegan at the No. 3 position, 8-2, and Brenna Jackson and Lakann Wagley defeated NU's Maria Ring and Wiveca Swarting at the No. 2 position, 8-4.

With the loss, the Huskers will take the No. 8 seed in the Big 12 Championships. They will play 9-seed Missouri on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the first round of the Championships. Earlier this season, the Huskers defeated the Tigers, 6-1, on Feb. 11. If the Huskers win Thursday, they will play No. 1-seed Baylor on Friday at 9 a.m.
