Apopka, Fla.-The No. 1 Nebraska bowling team is in second place after one day of competition at the 2007 NCAA Championship tournament. The Huskers are only 15 pins behind the defending national champion Fairleigh Dickinson team.
NU shot a total pinfall of 8,553 over nine games in today's qualifying rounds. The Huskers rolled a pinfall of 4,235 in the traditional format, before they shot a 4,318 in the Baker-style competition.
Senior Adrienne Miller earned a third-place finish on the day, averaging a career-high 230.75 over four games. She also claimed the singles third-game high, rolling a 259 over ten frames. Redshirt freshman Cassie Leuthold is also coming on strong, averaging a 226.25 over four games.
Nebraska will return to action Friday at 8:30 a.m. in Brusnwick Wekiva Lanes to compete against No. 7 New Jersey City. Should the Huskers win their first round, they will play again at 10:20 a.m. Four bracket-play rounds will be conducted on Friday, with the winners advancing to championship games on Saturday. ESPNU will broadcast the championships live at 3:00 p.m. CST, on Saturday.
