Goodyear, Ariz. ? Senior Brady Schnell posted a nine-under par total through three rounds to lead the University of Nebraska men's golf team to a second-place finish at the Ron Moore Invitational at the par 72, 7,015-yard Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Ariz.
The Huskers posted a team total of 848 (281-286-281), marking the lowest team total through the 2006-07 season. As a team, the Huskers posted three rounds that marked new spring season lows, as well as a tournament-leading seven eagles. Nebraska additionally led the tournament in par-five scoring at 40-under par and placed fourth in par-four scoring at just 10-over par.
Schnell’s total of 207 (68-71-68) included two rounds of 68, which marked a new spring season low for the Omaha native and left him in a tie for fifth, also a spring season low placing. Schnell additionally tied for third in the tournament in par-five scoring, finishing at nine-under par.
Senior Drew Reynolds was just behind Schnell with a total of 209 (72-67-70), a total that included a second round of 67 that marked a new spring season low by one stroke for the second week in a row. Reynolds finished in a tie for eighth, while also co-leading the tournament with two eagles. Reynolds additionally led the tournament in par-five scoring, finishing at 11-under par.
Senior Ty Capps finished third for the Huskers with a 214 (69-75-70), including a first-round total of 69 that marked the third Husker spring season low. Capps finished in a tie for 19th individually, while also co-leading the tournament with two eagles. Capps also tied for second in the tournament in par-five scoring, finishing at 10-under par.
Freshman Jamie Marshall was fourth for the Huskers with a 218 (72-73-73), with a first-round total of 72 that matched his career-low score shot at the UTSA Intercollegiate. Marshall finished in a tie for 38th. Marshall also tied for fourth in the tournament in pars with 38.
Senior Ryan Lenahan rounded out the squad with a 222 (73-75-74), finishing in a tie for 65rth individually while also co-leading the tournament with two eagles.
The Huskers placed second in last year’s Ron Moore Invitational with a final score of 837. The team will finish the tournament with the third and final round with fixed tee times beginning at 8 a.m. CST Tuesday morning.
