Huskers Tied for Seventh at UNLV

Boulder City, Nev. - The Nebraska women's golf team heads into the second day of competition at the UNLV Spring Invitational tied for seventh in the 18-team field after firing a 298 in the opening round.

The Huskers received strong rounds from junior Allison Stewart and freshman JC Stevenson, who finished the opening 18 holes in a tie for 18th place with rounds of 72. In nearly perfect scoring conditions on the par-72, 6,199-yard layout at the Boulder Creek Golf Club, 17 golfers produced rounds below par, including a sizzling five-under-par 67 from individual leader Rachel Newren from Brigham Young.

Nebraska freshman Kate White added a four-over par 76 to sit in a tie for 50th place, while senior Chrissie McArdle's 78 was good for a tie for 71st. Junior Elli Brown managed an 80, while sophomore Megan Place finished with an 85 playing as an individual.

"Usually when shoot 298 you would be really happy with your round, but the scoring conditions were absolutely perfect today," Coach Robin Krapfl said. "It was great for Allison and JC to shoot 72. Usually when your No. 4 and 5 golfers are at par, you would think you had a great round, but we struggled a lit bit at the top of the lineup. Hopefully we can get everybody going tomorrow and have a breakthrough kind of round."

Brigham Young enters the second day at eight-under-par after scorching the course with a 280 on Monday. New Mexico sits four strokes back at 284, while Indiana fired a 285.
