San Antonio, Texas - The Nebraska men's golf team moved up three spots from the first day of competition to post a sixth-place tie at the 12th annual UTSA Intercollegiate at the 6,691-yard, par-71 Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio, Texas. The Huskers' total score of 899 (307-297-295) left them in a tie with Illinois St. in the team's first spring tournament, which hosted a field of 17.
The squad was led by a strong showing from senior Brady Schnell, as the Omaha native finished with a 219 (73-74-72) to finish in a tie for ninth place.
Freshman Jamie Marshall improved his lowest total score by four strokes by posting a 223 (76-75-72), including posting a team-low along with Schnell with a one-over par in the final round.
Marshall's low round also improved his career low by two strokes and left him in a tie for 16th. Marshall's previous low round was a 73 at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate in the fall of 2006.
Senior Ryan Lenahan was next for the Huskers, posting his lowest round of 75 in the third round to finish with a 231 (77-79-75) and a tie for 52nd. Senior Ty Capps tie for 57th with a 232 (83-73-76), while senior Drew Reynolds rounded out the Huskers with a 233 (81-75-77) to tie for 63rd.
Sam Houston St. U. won the tournament with a total of 865 (295-295-275), followed by Louisiana-Monroe with a team total of 883 (290-298-295). Tournament host UTSA rounded out the top three teams with a total of 891 (303-295-293).
The Huskers will travel to Tampa Bay, Fla. for the South Florida Invitational next on March 2-4.
