Lincoln -- The Nebraska women's gymnastics team begins preparations for its 2007 season with an intrasquad meet on Friday, Dec. 8 at 5 p.m.. The annual intrasquad will be held in the practice facility in Mabel Lee Hall and is open free of charge to the public.
The Huskers will perform routines on every event, beginning in Olympic order with vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise.
Fans should enter through the west doors of Mabel Lee Hall directly across from the CampusRecreationCenter on 14th Street. The gym is located on the third floor of the building.
Nebraska returns ten letterwinners, seven of whom are All-Americans, including seven-time All-America honoree Emily Parsons. The junior is the defending Big 12 vault and beam champion and is considered among the nation's best on vault and floor. Nebraska also boasts two other first-team All-Americans in Tricia Woo and Vanessa Meloche. Meloche tied with fellow Husker Desire' Sniatynski, a two-time All-American, for the conference bars crown last season.
Second-team honorees Michele Zabawa, Stephanie Carter and Kylie Stone also highlight a Nebraska team that finished fifth nationally at the 2006 NCAA Championships.
NU also returns Brittney Williams, Sabrina Long and Kylee Johnson to its stellar lineup, and freshman newcomers Molly Ohnoutka and Maria Scaffidi will make their Husker debuts.
Nebraska opens the 2007 season Friday, Jan. 5 at the Super Six Challenge in Fayetteville, Ark. The meet, which features Arkansas, Florida, LSU, PennState and Denver, is slated to begin at 6 p.m. at Barnhill Arena.
