On the change in talent at the receiver position

“There is more competition with Mo (Maurice Purify) and Menelik (Holt). Those guys have added some more competition to the receiver group. Those guys have answered the call and made big plays ? guys like Nate (Swift). Nate hasn’t had the balls like he had last year because we’re running the ball more, but he’s made plays when he’s needed to. That was a huge catch he made last week. We had three catches in that game that were as good as you’ll see.”

On the improvement at the receiver position

“There’s no question. I thought it was the position that improved the most over last season than any position. And then coming into this year I felt like it was an experienced group that had played a lot. We have a number of guys who can play at that position, so that’s one of our stronger positions. We’ve got quite a bit of experience there and a lot of competition.”

On the fade to Purify against Missouri

“He does certain things well. He did a great job on that route. Zac (Taylor) did a great job because he was actually double covered. Zac did a good job of not leading him into the safety. Down there in the red zone, if you can make spot throws to good players where they can make plays on it, then that is what you try to do.”

On playing young offensive linemen

“It depends on the kid. Maturity is more important than age, and sometimes younger guys are more mature than others. There is a certain amount of physicality you have to have and most young kids don’t have it. You have to have some maturity. We have three good young linemen who are physical kids and they’re getting stronger all the time, but they’re all 300-pounders. They are all going to be really good linemen ? Cruz Barrett, D.J. Jones and Keith Williams. Those kids are going to be good linemen. They’re big kids now, so after Dave Kennedy (strength coach) gets a hold of them for a year, they are really going to be physical.”
