Lincoln? The Nebraska swimming and diving team earned its first win in the Alumni Meet during the six-year history of the event with a 135-52 win on Saturday morning at the Devaney Natatorium.
Nine Husker alums returned for the meet, including four-time Big Eight champion Mike Irvin, who lettered for the Nebraska men from 1986 to 1989. Irvin led the alums with three wins (25 free, 100 free, 100 IM). Former Husker divers Amie Buoy and Becky Johnson also earned a victory for the Huskers on the one meter dive.
Junior Lynn Siemert had an exceptional day in the short races with a pair of wins in the 50 butterfly and 50 free and a runner-up finish behind Irvin in the 25 free. Freshman Mariah Hutchinson also had a two-win day by taking first in the 100 back and 100 breast.
“Every year this is such a fun time,” assistant coach Doug Humphrey said, who finished runner-up in the 100 fly. “And I really think that our alumni just don’t lose it. A lot of them are still in the water (competitively).”
The meet saw alums from as far back as 58 years in Bucky Greenburg of Omaha, Neb.
