No. 2 Huskers Open Season at Wisconsin-Whitewater Invitational

Lincoln-The No. 2 Nebraska bowling team is kicking off its 2006-07 season this weekend at the Wisconsin-Whitewater Invitational in Whitewater, Wis.  The three-day tournament, held in the University Bowling Alley, is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 10, and conclude on Sunday afternoon.

 

Six other teams will be competing in the tournament including defending NCAA Champion Fairleigh Dickinson, two-time NCAA runner-up CentralMissouriState, Vanderbilt, Minnesota State, Wisconsin-Whitewater and Elmhurst.

 

“This tournament has a small field, but it's likely to have the most competitive teams we’ll see this year,” Nebraska Head Coach Bill Straub said.  “We’ll know a little more about what will happen this season once this weekend is completed.”

 

The traveling team for the Huskers includes seniors Amanda Burgoyne and Adrienne Miller, juniors Lindsay Baker and Emma Butchard, redshirt freshmen Cassandra Leuthold, Sarah Koch and Stephanie McGinnis, and freshman Ashley Rymer.

 

Nebraska finished the 2005-06 season with a third-place finish at the NCAA Championship and an outstanding 9-1 tournament record.  NU set school records with nine consecutive tournament wins and had won a school-record 14 straight tournaments before falling at the NCAA Championship.
