<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Tulsa, Okla.?Junior Imke Reimers of the Nebraska women’s tennis team advanced Saturday, Oct. 21, to the finals in singles and the semifinals with sophomore Maria Ring in doubles play at the ITA Central Regionals.
Reimers and Ring battled Stephanie Dalmario and Anna Egorova of WichitaState in the quarterfinals of the Main Draw doubles tournament. After exchanging points, Reimers and Ring outlasted WichitaState’s Dalmario and Egorova, 8-6. The Husker duo advanced to the semifinals.
In singles play, Reimers capped the day off in style. The junior from Germany started in the quarterfinals, dominating conference foe Elizaveeta Avdeeva of Kansas in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Reimers then faced the No. 1 seed, Ela Kaluder of Arkansas. After gaining the early advantage by taking the first set, 6-4, Reimers finished off Kaluder in a second set tiebreaker, 7-6 (1), to advance to the finals.
“Reimers’ mental toughness and focus allowed her to block out distractions during her matches, which allowed her to play very well and take her matches today,” assistant coach Hayden Perez said.
Play concludes at the ITA Central Regionals Sunday, Oct. 22, with Reimers and Ring starting off play in the doubles semifinals and Reimers concluding the day in the finals of the singles Main Draw.
