Nebraska Rolls to Quarterfinals of ITA Central Regionals

Tulsa-Okla.?Four members of the Nebraska women’s tennis team garnered a spot in the quarterfinals Friday, Oct. 20, at the ITA Central Regionals in Tulsa, Okla.

 

The Huskers started off the day on a high note, taking both doubles matches to advance to the quarterfinals of the Main Draw.  Freshmen Diana Kuhl and Wiveca Swarting edged out the No. 3 seed duo of Natalie Shatkoyskaya and Yawna Allen of OklahomaState, 8-5.  Junior Imke Reimers and sophomore Maria Ring continued to roll, defeating Oklahoma’s Chelsea Orr and Rachael Cox, 8-6.

 

Reimers, the No. 3 seed, got NU’s singles play off on the right foot, defeating Kansas State’s Katka Kudlakova in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0, and Swarting followed suit beating Nanar Airapetian of Arkansas, 6-1, 7-6 (4).  Kuhl completed the Husker sweep in the second round of the Main Draw as she upset the No. 10 seed Kindsay Grimers of Tulsa, 1-6, 6-0, 6-1.

 

In the third round, Reimers faced Kuhl faced each other for the first time in their careers.  Reimers defeated Kuhl in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, to advance to the quarterfinals.  Swarting fell in a three-set thriller to Tulsa's Santie Delport, 7-6, 2-6, 7-5.

 

Play at the ITA Central Regionals continues Saturday, Oct. 21, in Tulsa, Okla., starting with the Main Draw’s singles and doubles quarterfinals.
