<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Tulsa, Okla.?Four members of the Nebraska women’s tennis team competed in singles and doubles action on Thursday, Oct. 19, at the ITA Regionals Main Draw in Tulsa, Okla.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
In singles play, three out of four Huskers recorded victories to advance to the second round of the Main Draw. Junior Imke Reimers, who is the No. 3 seed, rolled over Patricia Cortes of Arkansas-Little Rock in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
Freshmen Diana Kuhl and Wiveca Swarting also posted victories. Kuhl played with an aggressive style and took the first set, 6-4, and carried the momentum over to the second set winning, 6-1, over UALR’s Marta Gomez-Jordana. Swarting took the first set over conference foe Raquel Wagner of Missouri, but fell in the second set, 6-1. Swarting found herself down early in the deciding set, but came back to pull out a tough three-set thriller, 6-4.
In doubles action, Swarting and Kuhl recorded their first win together in doubles play in the first round, defeating Emily Arkell and Paige McKinney of Oral Roberts, 8-3. Reimers and sophomore Maria Ring also advanced to the second round after receiving a bye in the first round.
In the second round, Swarting and Kuhl made quick work of UALR’s Gomez-Jordana and Cortes, 8-1, and advance to the second round of the Main Draw. Reimers and Ring defeated Jenna Hirdle and Laetitia Bourgeon of UALR, 8-1, to also advance to the second round.
Play continues Friday, Oct. 20, at the ITA Central Regionals in both singles and doubles play.
