Reimers Wins Singles Championship in Minnesota

Minneapolis- Junior Imke Reimers won the Maroon Singles Flight championship in straight sets and three of four Huskers to play singles matches won in the final day of action at the 2006 Gopher Invitational.

Reimers won 7-6, 6-3 over Iowa’s Jacqueline Lee to cap a four-match run through the top singles flight. Also earning a top-eight finish in the singles competition was Maria Ring, who took seventh in the Gold Flight with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Wichita State’s Torrie Browning.

In doubles action, Marianne Cicmanec and Ashley Finnegan fell to Wichita State’s Torrie Browning and Jackie Richey in the third-place match of the Star doubles flight, 6-0.  Ring and Reimers won in the North Doubles Flight consolation bracket final over Jane Anderson and Ashley Schelhaus, 8-4.

The Huskers are back in action at the prequalifying Rivera All-American in Los Angeles, Calif., on Sept. 30.
