Reimers Rolls to Championship Final

Minneapolis ? Nebraska had another strong day on the courts as junior Imke Reimers advanced to the championship final in the Maroon Singles Flight bracket and three-of-five NU doubles’ teams won matches on day two of the three-day Gopher Invitational.

 

Reimers won a hard-fought match with Hanisch of Wichita State 4-6, 6-4, 13-11 to advance to the finals and was also part of a doubles team with sophomore Maria Ring that gathered two victories on Saturday, shutting out Air Force’s Knight/Wilson 8-0 and then defeating Minnesota’s Malmberg/Risebrough, 8-5, in the North Doubles Flight bracket. The 2-0 day moves Reimers and Ring to the consolation championship match against Anderson/Schellhaus of Minnesota.

 

Sophomores Marianne Cicmanec and Ashley Finnegan defeated Rogers/Tellefsen of Minnesota, 8-3 to move to 2-0 in the Star Doubles Flight bracket before they were ousted by Mousseau/Spilca of Minnesota, 8-3. The Husker duo will now play for third place on Sunday against Browning/Richey of WichitaState.

 

Freshman Wiveca Swarting was Nebraska’s other singles winner on Saturday with a come-from-behind 1-6, 6-4, 10-4 win over Pratzel (Missouri).

 

The final day of the Gopher Invitational is set to begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
