Huskers in Second Place at Branson Creek Invitational

<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Hollister, Mo. - Junior Ty Capps followed up a first-round 74 with a 68 in the second round to lead all golfers in the Branson Creek Invitational Monday. Capps’ strong finish propelled the Huskers into second place headed into the third round Tuesday at the par-71, 6,958 yd. Branson Creek Golf Course in Hollister, Mo.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

 

After shooting a team score of 304 in the first round to trail first-place Missouri St. by 16 strokes, the Huskers posted a team score of 282 in the second round to narrow the gap to a mere two strokes.

 

Junior Brady Schnell shot a second-round 70 to pull into second place in the Husker lineup with a score of 145 (75-70), leaving him in tie for third through two rounds.

 

Senior Judd Cornell shot a 149 (79-70) to finish the first day tied for 11th, while freshman Trent Price finished tied for 23rd with a 151 (77-74). Junior Drew Reynolds rounded out the Husker lineup with a 155 (78-77), finishing tied for 35th.

 

Missouri St. stands in first place with a 584 (288-296), while Southern Illinois stands in third with a total score of 599 (308-291). Arkansas St. (306-294) and Oral Roberts (305-295) finished tied for fourth place at 600, while Western Illinois (609, 304-305), South Dakota St. (614, 307-307), UMKC (620, 316-304), Northern Iowa (623, 315-308), St. Louis (638, 328-310) and Creighton (643, 328-315) rounded out the 11-team field.

 

Sophomore Mark Pillen shot a 160 (80-80) as an individual to finish in a tie for 51st.

 

The Huskers follow Monday’s action with the third and final round of 18 holes on Tuesday, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Branson Creek Golf Course in Hollister, Mo.
