Huskers Finish Regular Season

Waco, Texas - The No. 63 Nebraska men's tennis team wrapped up its regular season in Waco, Texas, with a 6-1 loss to No. 6 Baylor, Sunday afternoon.

With the loss, the Huskers drop to 10-12 on the season and 0-7 in the Big 12 Conference.

The Huskers were swept in doubles, with the 28th-ranked tandem, Lars Poerschke and Michal Kokta, defeating senior Jerry Posch and sophomore Mark Tate at the No. 1 spot, 8-5.  Junior Adrian Szatmary and senior Joerg Barthel fell to Matt Brown and Matija Zgaga, 8-6, while juniors James Clow and Arturo Navarro were defeated by Will Ward and David Galic, 8-2.

In the singles column, the Huskers faced four nationally ranked opponents.  Posch faced his sixth ranked opponent in eight matches at the No. 1 spot, forcing No. 9 Poerschke into three sets.  Posch fell 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, giving Poerschke his seventh Big 12 win and extended his winning streak to 10 matches.  Junior James Clow faced his second ranked opponent of the season, falling to No. 50 Zgaga, 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 2 slot.  No. 41 Michal Kokta defeated freshman Renato Melo, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 3, while Hendrik Stahmer was the fourth Husker to fall to a ranked opponent on the day, losing to No. 115 Matt Brown, 6-1, 7-6, at the No. 5 spot.

Szatmary gave the Huskers their only win for the day, defeating Will Ward at the No. 4 spot, 6-1, 6-4.

The Huskers will return to Waco, Texas, for the Big 12 Championships, hosted by Baylor.  The tournament will be held April 27-30.
