Huskers Move Up Seven Spots in Rankings

The Nebraska women’s tennis team is coming off two straight victories over ranked teams, including upsetting then-No.  41 Texas A&M and moved up seven spots in the ITA National Rankings released on Tuesday, April 11.  NU is now ranked No. 42.

On Wednesday, April 5, the Big Red defeated then-No. 63 Kansas, 4-3.  The Huskers took the doubles point and matches at the Nos. 1, 4 and 6 spots, to clinch the victory for NU.

Nebraska carried its momentum over to Sunday, April 9, when it dominated then-No. 41 Texas A&M, 5-2.  Freshman Kim Hartmann and senior Milena Schulz-Gartner defeated No. 25 Anna Lubinsky and Nicki Mechem, 8-5, at No. 2 doubles.  Hartmann then capped off her day by upsetting No. 50 Lubinsky, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, at No. 1 singles.  Hartmann’s win over Lubinsky marked her second straight victory over a ranked player.

The Huskers’ No. 42 ranking is their highest ranking since March 14.

Nebraska next hits the courts Saturday, April 15, at 11 a.m. when it travels to Norman, Okla., to take on the Oklahoma Sooners.
