Huskers Hand Out Honors at Banquet

Lincoln -- The Nebraska men's basketball team handed out four awards at the annual postseason banquet Thursday night at the Stadium View Lounge at Memorial Stadium. Among the award winners were three seniors, including guard Jason Dourisseau, forward Wes Wilkinson and center Tony Wilbrand, along with freshman Kyle Marks.

Dourisseau led the way with a pair of honors. He was selected by his teammates as the Jack Moore Award winner as the team's co-most outstanding player while also earning the Outstanding Defensive Player Award. It was the second straight season Dourisseau shared the MVP award, making him only the fifth Husker to earn the honor more than once since it was first given following the 1984-85 season. He joined Dave Hoppen, Clifford Scales, Eric Piatkowski and Tyronn Lue as the only two-time winners.

A native of Omaha, Dourisseau finished second on the team with 11.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game, both career highs. He missed the NU single-season top 10 list for rebounds by just 12, as he finished with 240 boards to rank seventh on the NU senior class top-10 chart. He also led the Huskers in field-goal percentage at 47.7 percent.

Dourisseau was the first Husker since Cookie Belcher in 2001 to play more than 1,000 minutes in a season, as he lead the Huskers with 1,006 minutes. On the defensive end he was continually charged with locking down the opposing team's leading scorer. He finished tied for the team lead with 34 steals and was third with 12 blocked shots.

Wilkinson earned his first career team honor as he was selected to receive co-most outstanding player honors alongside Dourisseau. The Grand Island native averaged a team-best 11.9 points per contest and added 6.2 rebounds per game. Wilkinson provided a unique combination for the Huskers as he led the team in 3-pointers (62) and blocked shots (61) on the season. His 3-point total tied for ninth in NU single-season history while his blocks total was 10th. Wilkinson finished his career seventh in the NU blocked shots record book and 10th in 3-pointers.

Wilbrand was also honored for the first time in his career, as he was given the team's Outstanding Attitude Award. A native of Alliance, Wilbrand provided a tremendous work ethic on and off the court and gave 100 percent effort every day in practice. He finished his career playing in 81 games, including 19 contests in 2005-06, and hit better than 50.0 percent from the field for his career.

Marks was the only underclassman to receive an honor as he was selected as the team’s lifter of the year. A native of Riviera Beach, Fla., Marks played in 24 contests as a freshman, averaging 1.0 point and 0.9 rebounds per game. In the weight room, Marks made tremendous improvement during his first season in Lincoln, increasing his squat max by 100 pounds and bench max by 40 pounds. He put on 20 pounds of body weight in the course of the year while also increasing his explosiveness by adding 1 1/2 inches to his vertical jump.
