Posch Upsets No. 23 Byrnes

Lincoln, Neb. - Nebraska men's tennis senior Jerry Posch stunned No. 23 Daniel Byrnes with a 3-6, 7-6, 14-12 upset in the top spot of the singles lineup as the 52nd-ranked Nebraska men's tennis team lost 6-1 to No. 35 Oklahoma State, Friday afternoon, in the Huskers' the Big 12 Conference opener at the Nebraska Tennis Center.  The Perchtoldsdorf, Austria, native improves to 5-5 with the win, while the Huskers dropped to 10-5 (0-1 Big 12) on the season and 0-0-1 in the Big 12.

The Huskers lost just the fourth doubles point in 12 matches, losing at the No. 1 and 3 spots.  Senior Joerg Barthel and junior Adrian Szatmary managed to capture an 8-4 win over OSU's Artsem Bumistrau and Tomas Bohunicky in the doubles column at the No. 2 slot.

Posch was the lone winner in singles at the No. 1 spot, while Szatmary lost to Bohunicky, 7-5, 6-0, in the No. 2 spot and Clow, who is 10-4 on the season, dropped to Ivan Puchkarov at No. 3, 6-4, 6-1. Sophomore Mark Tate lost just his second match of the season, falling to Bumistrau, 6-3, 6-1.  Freshman Hendrik Stahmer lost to Olexsander Kotsiuk, 7-6, 6-3, at No. 6

"We just got outplayed today," Coach Kerry McDermott said.  "Jerry had a really good win, but Oklahoma State really took it to us in the rest of singles.  We really thought we could challenge them, but we'll just have to rebound for our next match."

The Huskers turn around to play No. 44 Oklahoma in Norman, Okla., at 6 p.m., Sunday night.
