Huskers Compete at Jim Click Combined Events

Five members of the Nebraska men’s and women’s track and field teams opened the outdoor season early Thursday during the first day of the Jim Click Combined Events in Tucson, Ariz. Each of the athletes will finish their respective multi-event competitions on Friday.

 

Sara Jane Baker currently sits in second place in the women’s heptathlon with a score of 3,178, behind ArizonaState’s Jacqueline Johnson (3,561), who won the NCAA pentathlon title earlier this month. Three of the heptathlon’s seven events will be held on Friday. Also competing for the Huskers is Kim Shubert, who is in seventh place with a score of 2,972.

 

Skyler Reising leads a group of three Huskers entered in Group 1 of the men’s decathlon. Reising’s score of 3,491 ranks fourth following the completion of five of the 10 events. Lee Martin narrowly trails Reising in fifth place with his 3,489 point total, while Pat Burke currently sits 10th (3,260). BYU’s Devin Howe leads the decathlon race with 3,588 points. Ben Schutter, who also was entered to compete for the NU men, did not compete.

 

The Huskers complete this week’s competition Friday with the decathlon beginning at 9 a.m. The heptathlon follows at 11 a.m.
