Huskers Sail Past Sea Warriors

Honolulu, Hawaii-The No. 48 Nebraska men’s tennis team sailed to a 6-1 win against HawaiiPacificUniversity at the CentralRegionalOahuPark in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Saturday evening. 

 

The Huskers claimed the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and 2 slots.  Senior Jerry Posch and sophomore Mark Tate downed Gabor Boczonadi and Thomas Troxler in straight sets at the top spot while senior Joerg Barthel and junior Adrian Szatmary defeated Jan Hroch and Simon Kersten at the No. 2 position.  

 

Posch got the singles action started off on the right foot with a quick win over Baczonadi in the No. 1 spot, 6-2, 6-2.  James Clow picked up a win in the No. 3 spot, beating Kersten, 6-0, 6-4.  Arturo Navarro defeated Hroch, 6-4, 6-3, while Barthel topped Vogl, 6-4, 6-4.  Hendrik Stahmer finished out the rotation, crushing Troxler, 6-1, 6-1. 

 

“The guys played well overall,” Nebraska Coach Kerry McDermott said.  “This tournament helped get us ready for Big 12 play against OklahomaState.”  

 

The Huskers return to the courts on March 24, when they face OklahomaState at the NebraskaTennisCenter at 2 p.m.
