Oklahoma City - Four Nebraska wrestlers received top-12 seeds in their weight classes as the brackets for the 2006 NCAA Championships were released Wednesday.
The four seeded Huskers were led by seniors B.J. Padden, who was seeded third at 197 pounds, and Jacob Klein, who added a No. 4 seed at 174 pounds. Also receiving seeds were Paul Donahoe, who took the No. 10 seed at 125 pounds, and Marc Harwood, who was seeded 12th at 165 pounds.
Padden will wrestle Matt Montiero of Cal Poly in the first round. Montiero wrestled against Nebraska on Dec. 17, but Padden missed the dual with an injury. Padden enters the NCAA Championships with a 22-3 record, as he looks to earn his second career All-America honor.
Also seeking his second career All-America honor, Klein will face Jim Bertulis of Bloomsburg in the first round. Bertulis missed Bloomsburg's dual against Nebraska on Jan. 2. Klein enters his fourth career NCAA Championships with a record of 20-4.
Donahoe will wrestle Patrick Castillo of Northern Illinois in his first career NCAA Championships match, in a rematch of the third-place match at the Kaufman-Brand Open in Omaha, Neb., on Nov. 19. Donahoe won the match 5-2 to take third at the early season tournament. Donahoe enters the NCAA Championships with a 24-7 record.
At 165 pounds, Harwood will face Larry Hall of West Virginia in the first round, in the first meeting of the year between the two wrestlers. Harwood could face a familiar foe in round two, as Matt Pell of Missouri is the No. 5 seed in the bracket. Harwood fell to Pell on Jan. 29, 5-2.
