DeBuhr Tosses One-Hit Shutout in 3-0 Win

Tallahassee, Fla. ? Junior right-hander Ashley DeBuhr came within one strike of her second career no-hitter in a brilliant outing that lifted the 15th-ranked Nebraska softball team to a 3-0 win over Bradley on Sunday at the Florida State Invitational. DeBuhr tossed her second shutout in as many starts, holding the Braves to just one hit while fanning 13.

With the win, Nebraska improved to 15-4 on the season and is now one victory away from the program’s 1,000th all-time win. The Huskers will seek their 1,000th win against Kent State in the consolation championship game of the Gold Bracket. First pitch for that contest is set for approximately 10:45 a.m. (central).

DeBuhr (7-3) had retired nine consecutive batters heading into the bottom of the seventh. The Braves' leadoff hitter reached when she was hit by a pitch, but DeBuhr struck out the next two hitters. Just one out away from the no-hitter, Elizabeth Wilson blooped a 2-2 pitch into shallow right field. DeBuhr quickly responded by striking out the following hitter.

Offensively for NU, junior Jamie Waldecker went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Senior Lizzy Aumua went 2-for-4 at the top of the Husker order and scored two runs.

Both teams struggled offensively early as neither team had a hit through the first three frames. After being retired in order the first time through the lineup, Nebraska produced a run in the top of the fourth. Aumua led off with an infield single and stole second. She then came home on a one-out RBI single off the bat of Waldecker.

NU used the same formula to plate another run in the sixth. Aumua and fellow senior Jessica Yoachim led off with back-to-back infield singles and Aumua advanced to third on a throwing error by the pitcher. She then scored her second run of the game on an RBI ground out from Waldecker to put the Huskers on top 2-0.

The Huskers added a final insurance run in the top of the seventh. Senior KoKo Tacha led off with a single and she came around to score on a two-out single from junior Carmen Kier.
