Lincoln, Neb.?Two members of the No. 53 Nebraska women’s tennis team were ranked in the top-100 in the ITA National rankings released Wednesday, March 8. Freshman Kim Hartmann is ranked No. 63, while sophomore Imke Reimers is ranked No. 95.
The two rankings marks the first time NU has had two singles players in the same national rankings, in recorded Nebraska history.
Hartmann, a freshman from Germany, began the season ranked No. 36, which is the highest ranking for a freshman in school history. Hartmann is off to a fast start in her Husker career, posting a 14-5 singles record. She is 3-4 against ranked players, with two of her losses coming at the hands of No. 12 Zuzana Zemenova and No. 28 Meg Racette. In the fall, Hartmann defeated then-No. 28 Anca Anastasiu. The win over Anastasiu marks the highest ranked player NU has beaten since 2003.
Reimers received her second-straight ranking of her career. The sophomore moved up five spots from her No. 100 ranking to No. 95. Reimers, who is tied with Hartmann for team leader in singles wins with 14, has won 12 of her last 14 matches, including a win over then-No. 38 Ela Kaluder of Arkansas.
NU takes the court Saturday, March 11, as it faces WichitaState at 10 a.m. at the WoodsTennisCenter.
