Nebraska tri-captain Kayte Tranel will cap a magnificent senior season by competing at the NCAA Cross Country Championships Monday, Nov. 21, in Terre Haute, Ind.
Tranel will represent the Nebraska women for the 22nd time in school history at the NCAA meet when she competes in the women’s 6K, which will start at 1:15 p.m., following the conclusion of the men’s 10K.
Tranel was one of four individual automatic qualifiers from the NCAA Midwest Regional with her eighth-place performance, along with Desiraye Osburn (Wichita State), Ashley Anklam (Drake) and Meghan Armstrong (Iowa).
Tranel has been a major reason for Nebraska’s success this campaign, just one year removed from a redshirt season.
The Hampton, Neb., native was the women’s top finisher in all but one race this year. She placed in the top 10 in four races, and set career-best marks in the 5K at the South Dakota State Invitational (17:42) and in the 6K at the NCAA Midwest Regional (21:09).
