Bryce Dickmeyer Season 2006

Bryce Dickmeyer’s consistency and leadership has earned him the role of team captain for the second straight year in 2006. Only the fourth Husker in history to lead the cross country team as a captain in back-to-back seasons, Dickmeyer sets the tone for the Huskers on the course and in the classroom, where he is a two-time first-team academic All-Big 12 performer.

 

2005 (Junior)

Dickmeyer was a co-captain in 2005 and developed into a strong No. 2 runner for the Huskers. His 8K time steadily improved throughout the season, ending with a season-best mark of 26:20 at the Big 12 Championships.

 

The <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Fremont native placed third at the Creighton/UNO Classic and finishing as Nebraska’s second runner to place 62nd at home at the Woody Greeno Invitational. He was NU’s second finisher in five of the seven meets on the campaign.

 

Dickmeyer was the only male runner on the 2005 cross country team to compete in both indoor and outdoor track. He finished fifth in the outdoor 5,000 meters at the Emporia State Relays, while finishing fifth during the indoor season in the 3,000-meter run at the Colorado State, Kent State Triangular.

 

2004 (Sophomore)

Dickmeyer was one of NU’s top runners, finishing among the Huskers’ top three in every meet, including a second-place overall finish at the Creighton/UNO Classic.

 

During the regular season, Dickmeyer lowered his personal best in the 8K to 25:51 at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational, where he placed 57th. He also knocked nearly a minute off his 10K time at the NCAA Midwest Regional.

 

During the indoor track season, Dickmeyer was slowed by illness. He redshirted outdoors, but ran unattached in several meets.

 

2003 (Freshman)

Dickmeyer stepped into scoring position as a freshman after injuries to several veteran runners.  Dickmeyer scored for the Huskers in five of seven meets. At the 2003 Big 12 Championships he finished as NU’s No. 2 runner in 72nd place.

 

On the indoor oval, Dickmeyer competed in the mile, 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters. One of his best races came at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational where he finished the 25-lap race in a season-best 15:10.42. 

 

He showed improvement at the adidas Classic by posting a time of 8:43.04 over 3,000 meters.  He redshirted during the outdoor season, but finished fourth in the Lincoln Half-Marathon in 1:11:35, an average of 5:28 per mile.

 

High School

Running for the Fremont Tigers, Dickmeyer placed eighth in the 2002 Nebraska Class A Championships, leading his team to a state title.  He placed 27th as a junior and 32nd as a sophomore at the Class A state meet.

 

Under Coach Sean McMahon, Dickmeyer placed third in the 3,200-meter run (9:32.58) and fourth in the 1,600-meter run (4:21.80) at the 2003 Class A championships.  Dickmeyer’s 1,600-meter personal best came in that race at the state meet.  Qualifying for the Class A 1,600-meter run as a junior and sophomore, Dickmeyer did not place.  Dickmeyer’s personal best of 9:29.56 in the 3,200-meter run was set at the 2003 Omaha North Invitational.

 

Personal

The son of Joe and Cheryl Dickmeyer, Bryce was born July 3, 1984 in Fremont. He has two sisters Nicole (20) and Erica (15).  After graduating cum laude with high distinction from FremontHigh School, Bryce entered Nebraska as a mechanical engineering major and carries a 3.85 GPA.

 

He is in the honors program and has earned a spot on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll each of his six semesters at Nebraska.
