Huskers Place Nine on Academic All-Big 12 Cross Country Teams

Dallas, Texas ? Seven members of the Nebraska men’s and women’s cross country teams have earned academic All-Big 12 honors, the league office announced Wednesday, Oct. 26.

The women matched last season’s total of six, while junior co-captain Bryce Dickmeyer was the lone men’s selection. Dickmeyer was the only eligible runner for the men’s squad as the only returnee this season. The Fremont, Neb., native earned first-team honors for the second consecutive year, signifying a 3.20 grade-point average or higher.

A trio of upper classmen led the NU women’s honorees as seniors Michaela Lenihan and Kayte Tranel and junior Kim Pancoast were each named to the first team, as well as sophomores Betsy Miller and Val Zajac. The awards were the third for Lenihan and Pancoast, while Zajac made it back-to-back selections.

Sophomore Joslyn Dalton rounded out NU’s women’s honorees by appearing on the second team, which consisted of student-athletes with a 3.00-3.19 GPA.

The Nebraska cross country team has had 75 first-team academic all-conference selections, as well as nine second-team honors, since the Big 12’s inception in 1996.

The Huskers travel to the Big 12 Cross Country Championships on Friday, Oct. 28 at the Bear Run Cross Country Course in Waco, Texas. The men’s 8K begins at 10 a.m., followed by the women’s 6K at 11 a.m.
