The Nebraska soccer team produced a season-high six goals and freshman goalkeeper Jamie Klages posted her fourth shutout in five games as the Huskers flew past Oral Roberts, 6-0, on Friday.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
With the victory, NU improved to 9-4-1 on the season, while Oral Roberts fell to 7-8-0. Sophomore Meghan Hungerford, who entered the game without a point in her Husker career, notched a pair of goals to the lead the Nebraska offensive attack.
Senior Sasha Andrews started the scoring explosion at 3:22 off a corner kick from junior Brittany Timko and a pass from junior Tanya Dennis. Less than 12 minutes later, freshman Lauren Isenhower found the back of the net off a cross to put the Huskers up 2-0.
NU added another goal in the first half on Hungerford’s first career goal. Hungerford took a cross from Timko and beat ORU goalkeeper Shelbi Morrison to put the game out of reach.
In the first half, NU dominated the Golden Eagles, outshooting ORU, 16-3. The Huskers also won five corner kicks in the half, while not surrendering just one corner kick to Oral Roberts.
In the second half, senior Vern Fitzgerald scored her first goal of the season at 60:29. Fitzgerald took a cross from Timko on the play and headed the ball past Morrison from inside the box.
Hungerford added her second goal of the game in the 68th minute, while Timko closed out the scoring, finding the back of the net with just 1:23 remaining in the game. Timko unofficially finished the game with season highs of one goal, three assists and five points.
For the game, NU outshot ORU, 25-5, including a 14-1 shots-on-goal advantage. The Huskers also won seven corner kicks, while holding the Golden Eagles without a corner.
In net, Klages needed to make only one save as the Huskers dominated the action for the full 90 minutes. Morrison made eight saves for Oral Roberts, while surrendering all six goals.
The Huskers return to Big 12 action and wrap up a four-game road trip when they head to Austin, Texas, for a Sunday 1 p.m. kickoff with Texas.
