Nebraska Falls to Oklahoma at Home

Lincoln, Neb.?The No. 71 Nebraska men’s tennis team fell to No. 48 Oklahoma, 7-0, on Saturday, April 9, at the NU Varsity Courts.  NU’s record is now 9-11.

 

Head Coach Kerry McDermott was pleased with the effort of his team.

 

“It was a tough match to lose,“ McDermott said.  “It was a much closer match than the score shows.  We battled hard but just didn’t get it done. We need to keep our heads up and continue to work hard.”

 

In doubles play, sophomore James Clow and Adrian Szatmary defeated Alexei Ivanov and Federico Chavarria, 8-6.  The Huskers fell in close matches at the No. 1 and No. 2 slots.  At the No. 2 slot, Marek Velicka and Silviu Tanasoiu edged out Jose Rivera and Joerg Barthel, 8-6, while at the No. 1 spot, Tommy Garrison and Ondrej Fukala defeated Jerry Posch and Joel Reckewey, 8-5.

 

In singles play, Garrison defeated Rivera in a three-set thriller at the No. 3 slot.  Rivera took the first set, 6-4, before dropping the second set, 1-6.  In the third set, Garrison defeated Rivera, 6-4.  At the No. 5 slot, Tanasoiu defeated Barthel in a close match, 4-6, 6-3, 10-7.

 

OU improved to 15-3 on the season.

 

The Huskers next travel to College Station, Texas, to take on Texas A&M on Saturday, April 16, at 6 p.m.
