Huskers Pick Up Win Over New Mexico State

Boise, Idaho --- The No. 60 Nebraska men's tennis team routed New Mexico State, 7-0, Friday at the Boise State Red Lion Spring Break Invitational. Competing at the Boise Racquet and Swim Club, the Huskers, who improved to 9-8 on the season, swept past the Aggies with six singles wins and three doubles victories.

Despite the easy win, Coach Kerry McDermott felt the Huskers could have played a better match overall.

"It was good to get the win and advance, but we didn't really play that well," McDermott said. "We struggled some today, especially with playing in windy conditions for really the first time this year. But we're glad to advance and will look to end the tournament on a high note Saturday."

Nebraska cruised in doubles action, as it picked up three straight victories, including an 8-0 shutout posted by Adrian Szatmary and James Clow at the No. 3 slot. The duo improved to 5-1 on the season with the victory.

In singles action, Szatmary and Clow each needed three sets to earn the point, while NU's other four competitors finished off New Mexico State in straight sets. At No. 2 singles, Szatmary came from behind to defeat Stjepan Beg, 2-6, 6-4, 10-8, in thrilling fashion while Clow nearly let one get away before holding on for a 7-6, 4-6, 10-7, victory at the No. 3 slot.

Nebraska returns to action on Saturday, March 26, in its final match of the Boise State Invitational. The Huskers are scheduled to play Ball State in the fifth-place match. NU entered the 16-team tournament as the No. 5 seed while Ball State was unseeded.
