Huskers Finish Third at NCAA Championships

Colorado Springs, Colo. - The Nebraska women's rifle team finished in third place at the NCAA Championships Saturday, following a strong performance in air rifle. Led by freshmen Andrea Franzen and Eva Richert, the Huskers shot a 4,657 in the event, finishing third to Army.

Franzen fired the top score for the Huskers, shooting a 588. Richert shot a 586 to finish in second place for the team, while sophomore Kirstina Fehlings (585) and junior Misty Chanek (579) rounded out the field for the Huskers.

Army finished with a 4,659 at the NCAA Championships, dethroning six-time defending champion Alaska-Fairbanks and taking home its first NCAA Championship title in any sport in over 50 years. Jacksonville State finished in second place, firing a 4,658, followed by Nebraska with 4,657.

In addition to shooting for the team, Fehlings, Chanek and Franzen also competed for the air rifle individual national championship. Franzen finished in second place with a 689.4 to champion Beth Tidmore of Memphis, who shot a 694.2. Fehlings finished eighth with a 684.2, while Chanek finished in 10th place.
