Lincoln, Neb?The No. 38 Nebraska women’s tennis team destroyed Wichita State, 7-0, Sunday Feb. 27, at the Woods Tennis Center. The Huskers improve their record to 11-1 and extend their home non-conference winning streak to 63 matches.
Head Coach Jacobson was proud of the way his team competed.
"Our goal is to play with a great deal of intensity," Jacobson said. "I thought we made good decision in doubles, and I am proud of the way we competed."
The Huskers shot out of the gates quickly with a dominating performance in their solid doubles play. At the No. 2 slot, juniors Ewelina Skaza and Imke Reimers rolled over WSU’s Geneviene Spink and Jackie Richey, 8-0, while juniors Milena Schulz-Gartner and Pamela Castillejos dominated Alejandra Ripoll and Anna Martorell, 8-2.
In singles play, NU did not surrender a set at any spot. At the No. 5 slot, Castillejos blanked Richie, 6-0,6-0, while at the No. 6 slot, senior captain Katie Garcia beat Martorell, 6-0, 6-0. The Huskers outscored the Shockers 72-7 games in singles play.
WSU falls to 6-4 on the season.
The Huskers return to the Woods Tennis Center on Thursday March 3, at 4 p.m., when they face the No. 24 Baylor Bears.
