Huskers Capture Air Rifle Conference Crown

Oxford, Miss. - The Nebraska women's rifle team captured the Great American Rifle Conference air rifle title Saturday afternoon at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center. Led by strong performances by sophomore Kristina Fehlings and freshman Andrea Franzen, the Huskers took home the title with a total score of 2,349.   Fehlings and Franzen each shot a 591 in the event, leading the Huskers past Memphis (2,333). Army finished third (2,329), followed by Kentucky (2,328), Ole Miss (2,312), Xavier (2,298) and West Virginia (2,272).   Army's Chris Abalo finished as the individual conference champion in air rifle, edging Memphis' Beth Tidmore in a shootout. Fehlings finished third for the Huskers, closely followed by Franzen. Junior Misty Chanek finished in eighth as an individual, giving the Huskers three top-ten finishers.   Competition continues Sunday when the Huskers compete for the smallbore title and the overall conference champion is named.
