Lincoln, Neb.?The No. 38 Nebraska women’s tennis team dominated the Drake Bulldogs, 7-0, to improve NU’s record to 9-1. The Huskers improve their home non-conference winning streak to 61 matches.
Though pleased with the win, head coach Scott Jacobson was concerned with the team’s mentality.
“It was a good wake up call because we can’t take a win for granted,” Jacobson said. “We weren’t as focused during doubles, but we regrouped and played with passion in singles. Hopefully, we have a different mentality against Utah.”
At the No. 1 doubles slot, seniors Gitte Ostermann and Katie Garcia, ranked No. 23, struggled early against Drake’s Zorana Stefanovic and Evelina Rustianto before taking the match, 9-8. Juniors Pamela Castillejos and Milena Schulz-Gartner blanked Cheen Alkahatib and Daria Zawislak, 8-0, at the No. 3 spot.
In singles, freshman Imke Reimers picked up her fifth win at the No. 2 slot with a dominating performance, defeating Rustianto, 6-0, 6-2. Junior Ewelina Skaza beat Allison Wilkie, 6-3, 6-4.
Drake falls to 0-6 on the season.
The Huskers return to the WoodsTennisCenter on Saturday, Feb. 26, to take on Utah at 10 a.m.
