Szatmary and Rivera lead NU at Rice/Met Invitational

Houston ? Adrian Szatmary and Jose Rivera reached the consolation semifinals before falling at the Rice/Met Invitational Saturday at the Downtown Club at the Met.

Szatmary reached the semifinal of the 'A' Flight consolation draw with an injury default over Dennis Andrade of Texas-San Antonio before falling to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Gonzalo Figuereido in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3.

After dropping his first match of the weekend in the 'B' Flight main draw, Rivera cruised through his first two matches of the consolation bracket to reach the semifinal round. Rivera defeated Jason Ray of Abeliene Christian, 7-5, 6-2, late Friday and came back with a 6-4, 7-6, victory over Ohio State's Dominic Ozanne, 6-4, 7-6. Rivera's run ended with a three-set loss to seventh-seeded Nolan Polley of Kentucky, 6-2, 3-6, 10-4.

In doubles action, the Huskers' last remaining tandem of Jerry Posch and James Clow fell to second-seeded Jason Mok and Take Morita of Rice, 8-5, in the 'B' Flight main draw.

Late Friday, the Huskers dropped three of four doubles matches in the main draw, with the lone victory coming in the 'B' Flight as Clow and Posch earned an 8-6 victory over Amrit Narmisnan and Guillamme Tonelli of Tyler Junior College.

The Huskers return to action on Sunday in the final day of the Rice/Met Invitational before facing host Rice in their first dual match of the season on Monday, Jan. 24, in Houston.
