<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Colorado Springs, Colo. ? Nebraska sophomore Paul Chumreonlert and freshman Stephen T?trault claimed their first collegiate event titles in the pommel horse (9.45) and vault (9.40), respectively, at the 20th annual Rocky Mountain Open Saturday afternoon.

Chumreonlert competed in a total of three events in the individual finals portion of the two-day meet, also earning a fourth-place finishs on the still rings (9.475) and the parallel bars (8.50).

“Chumreonlert’s performance today was just awesome,” Head Coach Francis Allen said.  “Winning the pommel horse will give him the fuel he needs for other events and as soon as he improves on those, he’s going to be terrific on the all-around and that’s the spark we need.”

In just his second day of collegiate competition, T?trault tacked on a pair of top-six finishes to his vault title including fourth-place in the pommel horse (9.00) and fourth on the high bar (8.95)

“T?trault had a landmark meet for us,” Allen said.  “He is already blossoming into a terrific gymnast and this is only his first college meet.  It’s going to be fun to see where his career goes from here.”

Senior co-captain Tony Burtle continued his success from Friday’s team competition, putting up scores of 9.30 on the vault and 9.10 on the high bar for a pair of third place finishes.

Other Nebraska top-six finishers included Jason Wassung who finished fifth (8.70) in the still rings, sixth in the vault (8.90) and fifth on the high bar (8.675), as well as Derric Wood who finished fifth with a score of 8.55 as the only Husker to compete on the floor.

Nebraska’s next competition will be the West Point Open in West Point, N.Y. beginning on Jan. 28 with the team competition at 6 p.m. central time, followed by the individual event finals on Saturday, Jan. 29 again at 6 p.m.
