Huskers Hit Mat for Wrestle-Offs Friday

The no. 3/4/3 (AWN/WIN/NWCA) Nebraska wrestling team will hit the mat for wrestle-offs at the Devaney Center main arena at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5.  The public is invited to attend, and admission is free, as the Huskers hit the mat in public for the first time this season.  The wrestle-offs will prepare NU for its season-opening dual, which is two weeks after the wrestle-offs.  The Huskers take on no. 16/12/t13 Hofstra at 7 p.m. at the Devaney Center Track.

Seven national qualifiers, including three All-Americans, return from last season’s team, which earned a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championships.  The seven returning national qualifiers are all ranked among the top-ten in their respective weight classes, led by senior 141-pound wrestler Matt Murray, who is the consensus preseason no. 1 wrestler in the nation in his weight class after a national runner-up finish last year. Two other Nebraska wrestlers, 149-pound wrestler Travis Shufelt and 165-pound wrestler Jacob Klein, are ranked in the top five in their respective weight classes in all three major polls.
