<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Lincoln, Neb. ? Bowlin Stadium, home of the Husker softball team, was honored as the 2004 college/university division Field of the Year by the SportsTurf Managers Association last week.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

The field was selected based on four criteria: 1) the playability and appearance of the playing surface, 2) the organization of the maintenance program, 3) uses of facility that impact the playing surface and 4) innovative solutions to playing surface problems.

“I think it’s a well-deserved honor,” NU Head Coach Rhonda Revelle said. “I don’t know of a more dedicated grounds crew and head grounds keeper with Jen Roeber.”

Roeber oversees the upkeep of the playing surface at Bowlin Stadium.

“Jen has been the epitome of ?do whatever it takes,’” Revelle said. “She’s been absolutely outstanding. We’re very happy have this honor, but we know we couldn’t have done it without her dedication.”

According to the SportsTurf Managers Association website, “The STMA awards program rewards and recognizes turf managers who go above the call of duty to further the science of turf management. These are individuals who have researched facets of turf management that aids fellow turf managers' pursuit of excellence.”

Nebraska is the first Big 12 Conference school to receive the Field-of-the-Year honor in the 11-year history of the award.
