Nebraska Cross Country Announces 2004 Team Awards

Lincoln - University of Nebraska Head Cross Country Coach Jay Dirksen announced the team’s end-of-season award winners Tuesday, Nov. 16. The Huskers wrapped up their seasons at last weekend’s NCAA Midwest Region Championships.

Senior co-captains Anne Shadle and Eric Rasmussen were honored as the team’s Most Valuable Cross Country Runners for the 2004 campaign. Shadle and Rasmussen led the women’s and men’s teams in each race that they competed during the season. Shadle earned All-Big 12 honors for the first time when she finished 15th at the conference meet two weeks ago, while Rasmussen paced the NU men’s squad with his 37th-place finish.

Most Improved Runners were sophomores Lindsey Finkner and Bryce Dickmeyer. Finkner filled the role of the No. 2 runner on the women’s team for much of the year, while lowering her career-best 6,000-meter time from 22:54 to 21:49. Dickmeyer, the men’s team’s No. 3 runner for most of the season, emerged from a large group of underclassmen while lowering his personal-low 8,000-meter time from 26:37 to 25:51.

Dirksen also named letterwinners for the 2004 season. Rasmussen earned his fourth career award, while Shadle collected her third. Finkner and sophomore Kim Pancoast each earned their second letter, while Dickmeyer and freshmen Joslyn Dalton were tabbed winners for the first time.
