Milwaukee, Wis. -- Three Huskers advanced to the consolation draw singles semifinals Friday at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic.
Joerg Barthel and Jose Rivera, who also formed NU’s top doubles squad this week, battled in a three-set match early in the day, with Barthel coming out on top with a 6-7, 7-6, 7-6, victory to reach the semifinals Saturday. Barthel will face another teammate, as he will match up against No. 9 seed Adrian Szatmary, who advanced by default over Brian Ko.
Joel Reckewey was the third Husker to make it to the semifinal round, where he will face Tommy Dennis. Reckewey picked up a solid 7-6, 6-4, victory Friday over Mark Tate to advance to the next round.
In doubles play, Barthel and Rivera gave a strong effort but came up short in the main draw quarterfinals, where they dropped an 8-5 contest to Avery Ticer and Adrian Debreyne.
Singles action concludes for the Huskers on Saturday, with action beginning at 10:30 a.m.
